Ride for Cancer Research Postcard

My Cancer Research Postcard, to promote the ride with Lance Armstrong in Kitchener on August 28th.

I just did some elaborate line artwork with some textures. I put yellow over it so it would relate to the LiveStrong bracelets.

Illustration Friday - Expired

Expired

I drew this for the Illustration Friday topic, expired.

When Microsoft's Xbox 360 console gets three flashing red lights, commonly known as "The Red Ring of Death", the console's ability to work has expired. It's broken, dead, a doorstop..

I've had to send away three Xbox 360s in coffins off to Microsoft so far..
Great software, terrible hardware..

Cereal Ad Storyboard (With Reference)

Three of my rendered storyboard images with photo reference, based on these comps and these thumbnails.
Scene 2. Close up of the running female, she is sweating and panting.
Scene 7. The vampire has the female cornered.
Scene 9. The female reaches around for anything she can defend herself with. She holds up a box of Wild Pops Cereal.

I don't like the way these turned out, I'll stick with Photoshop next time..

Illustration Friday - Subterranean

Subterranean

I drew this for the Illustration Friday topic, subterranean.

The second I saw the word subterranean I thought of the song "Subterranean Hell", composed by Michiru Yamane, for the video game Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow on the DS. Subterranean Hell is also an area in the game underneath the castle. One of the enemies in this area is a Frozen Shade, which I have illustrated this week. The Frozen Shade is a blue, floating, naked woman with ice abilities such as launching giant icicles and freezing mist in the air.

My illustration is based off this small in game sprite..

Hit the read more link for the song that inspired this image.

Life Drawing Studies

I was recently looking through my life drawing studies that I did back in 2006 and 2007 at Sheridan College, and I thought I'd post some up here.

Check out my gallery on DeviantART where I just posted these and many more!
Enjoy.

Illustration Friday - Brave

Brave

I drew this for the Illustration Friday topic, brave.

This drawing is based off one of my favourite scenes and songs in the 1987 film The Brave Little Toaster. The scene is when the main characters get taken to a parts shop and meet some freaky looking appliance characters. My drawing features three of these characters, a hanging lamp, a cassette player and a fan. In the scene you witness a blender being murdered, followed by an amazing song (with some old horror film references).
Check out the song and my rough sketch after the jump.

Illustrations for Notes from the Deanery (Remix)

(Note: I remade the images posted in this earlier blog entry.)
I was asked to create three illustrations for Rick Court's blog. One header image and two smaller spot images. These images are based on the post titled "Introductions".

In this post Rick talks a lot about his past and how he got to where he is today. My header image is based on the section where he is talking about working in the blast furnaces at Dofasco. It shows a furnace with fire coming out of it, as well as a bunch of words. Rick said this job was horrible so I put that coming out of the furnace. Every other word is somehow related to heat or fire.

On the right here is one of my spot images. It is based on the part where Rick talks about the farm burning where the chestnut tree stood. It shows part of the burning chestnut tree, with the same kind of fire as in my header image.

The image placement in this blog is an example of how the spot images would be placed on Rick's blog.

My third and final image, on the left here, comes from the part where Rick states, "Apparently wearing a tie to work was more important than making money." I made a typical collared business shirt with a tie made of words. The words are related to a bank and are textured with Canadian bills.

All three of these images are now more linked to each other, each of them have a brown background with jumbled text, as well as a dark gradient border. The fire and text aspects from the header are used again in the two spot images.
