Illustration Friday - Ahead

Ahead
I drew this for the Illustration Friday topic, ahead.

This illustration is based off some lyrics of some Nine Inch Nails songs, "Ringfinger" and "Twist". "Twist" was the early version of "Ringfinger" so they do have some similar lyrics.
I thought of ahead while listening to the song "Twist", where it says "go ahead and cut me". This lead to me listening to "Ringfinger" and coming up with this illustration. Both songs contain the lyric "working my hands until they bleed", while "Ringfinger" contains the lyrics "ringfinger"and "sever flesh and bone". I think with these select portions of the songs you can see how I came up with this illustration.

Two Sprites One Pipe

I finished a flash animation today, made it with my friend Tom (Deadly Designs).
Check out blog on the process World 1-1 Productions.

This was finished about an hour before class was finished on the final day. The week was rough, I'd say we spent at least 50 hours working in Flash this week.
Once again, our first time doing an animation like this, definitely learned a lot. Flash has quite a few annoying limitations, plus it crashes after you do something minimal like scrolling, or after you do something very hard and important..

Music and Sound effects were fun to do, we made and recorded our own sounds, plus looked up some free samples.

Music credits:
Glomag - "The Ecstasy of Gold"
Animal Style - "Cyboshellfish"
Linde - "Galileon"

It was a great experience, very happy with the result and we are planning to do more in the future.

Ink Illustration

A final project in my Illustration class, the goal was to create an object that can be won and render it in ink. We had to use different styles of shading. I drew a drum set, and I made scribbles to create the different shades and tones in my drawing. I really like this effect and I think the result is very interesting.

Illustration Friday - Detective

Detective
I drew this for the Illustration Friday topic, detective.

Click on the image for a full view please, the characters are quite detailed.. I put some close ups at the bottom too.

It's a scene from the Disney movie "The Great Mouse Detective", where Ratigan is escaping with Olivia Flaversham, with Basil, Dawson and Hiram Flaversham right behind him. I drew this with somewhat simple shapes in Adobe Illustrator. I really wanted to do a drawing for this movie, and thought of doing realistic mice characters, but settled on this style, just for the eyes alone.

The movie itself is great, really funny, and not a musical like other Disney animations..

Illustration Friday - Linked

Linked
I drew this for the Illustration Friday topic, linked.

My drawing is of two comic book characters Tsubasa (Syaoran) Li, from Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, and Kimihiro Watanuki, from ×××HOLiC. These two comic series and characters are linked.
When Tsubasa turns back time in attempt to save a character in another universe, he is erased from his home universe. When this happens Kimihiro is created to fill the gap in Tsubasa's universe. Kimihiro is essentially another part of Tsubasa, Kimihiro becomes the child of Tsubasa's parents and fills any relationships Tsubasa would have made. Kimihiro's existence is essential to keeping the multiverse stable.

For my actual illustration Tsubasa (known as Syaoran for most of the series) is in the left panel and Kimihiro is in the main panel. The smoke from Kimihiro's kiseru is linked to Tsubasa's magic that is surrounding him in that panel.

×××HOLiC is easily one my favourite comic series, it is a more supernatural/slice of life story, compared to Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, as it starts out as an action/adventure series, but slowly the many dark plot twists that occur make it very interesting and make both series have some good dramatic elements. Even the fact that these characters are linked isn't revealed until far into each story.

Visual Interpretation - Montage

A montage drawing based on the lyrics to the Crystal Castles song "Mother Knows Best".

For my montage I chose to do it based off of lyrics to a song called Mother Knows Best by Crystal Castles. The song brought violent, abusive, offensive images to mind. I find that kind of stuff interesting to draw. When I hear, or read the lyrics to the song I see that it mentions sex, herpes, abuse and murder a lot.

The blood and bruises are the most vibrant because they the most prominent to me in the song. There is a bruised and bleeding vagina at the top because the song mentions beating, herpes, cunt and sickness inside, so I thought this would help represent those portions. I made knives stabbing and cutting the spread legs, as the song mentions “I stab her with my hunting knife”. Finally, there is a female with a bruised and bleeding face, once again referring to the abuse. The blood is meant to tie all the images together.
